Western Heritage Art Competition

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Eligibility

· Open to all artists 18 yrs. Or older
· Any number of entries may be submitted
· Entries must be original and completed from January 2007 to the present. Older works will be disqualified. No litho,airbrush, prints giclees, crafts, ceramics, photographically produced or computer-generated artwork.
· Realistic/Representational art. Must be consistent with the Western Heritage theme of the Festival. Medium may be watercolor, oil, acrylic, pencil drawings, ink drawings, pastel, gouache, alkyd, tempera, mixed media, colored pencil.
· Works must be suitably framed with wire (no saw tooth hangers) ready for hanging. The Burnet Cultural Arts Association (BCAA) bears no responsibility for breakage at any time.
· Paintings must not exceed 36 x 48 in any direction (image size – does not include frames or matting). Any works exceeding these dimensions will not be hung.
· All works must be for sale. A 25% commission will be paid to the BCAA on all sales of artwork for the duration of the exhibition.

Entry Information

· Deadline to receive all entries is MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2008. Entries received after this date will not be accepted or processed.
· Entry fee is $15 per entry. Any number of entries may be submitted. A maximum of four entries per person will be included in the art competition.
· Each entry must be submitted with a completed entry form.
· Entries may be submitted on CD or as a 4” x 6” photograph on gloss photo paper.
· CD entries require a high-quality digital image of each entry. 600 to 900 pixels on longest dimension, high resolution JPG format, RGB color mode. Label each image with the title and artist’s name. Label each CD case and CD with artist’s name. CDs will be returned only if a SASE with appropriate amount of return postage is provided. Professional quality CDs are recommended. Images should be photographed without frames or unnecessary, distracting background scenes. Mail to: Burnet Cultural Arts Association, P.O. Box 1327, Burnet, TX 78611.
· Photographs submitted as 4” x 6” print entries should be high resolution and printed on glossy photo paper.
· Entry fees should be made payable to and mailed along with the CD or photo images to Burnet Cultural Arts Association, P.O. Box 1327, Burnet, TX 78611.

Judging

· Acceptance of artwork will be the responsibility of the Jurying Committee. A judge will be named for selecting the winning entries.
· The Jurying Committee and the Judge have the right to determine final acceptance of all artwork(s) upon arrival. Work, including frames, not meeting acceptance standards after delivery will be disqualified and the artist notified no later than September 16. Only juried entries will be accepted for the exhibit. No substitutions will be allowed.

SHIPPING/DELIVERY INSTRUCTIONS

· Shipped work must be packaged in re-usable materials and crates so that it can be used for return shipping. The artist will be responsible for repackaging the work and for return shipping arrangements if the work is not sold. A return delivery address is required. If the work is sold, the buyer will be responsible for removing the work from the exhibit area.
· A location and time for hand-delivered works will be provided along with notification of acceptance by the jurying committee.
· Hand-delivered work should be wrapped in bubble wrap.

TIMELINE

Sept. 8 Final date to receive entries
Sept 16 Acceptance & unaccepted letters mailed on or before this date
Oct. 6-8 Art work received (Shipped work must arrive by Oct. 8) Shipping address will be provided later.
Oct. 8 Hand deliveries accepted between (Times to be determined)
Oct. 10 Judging – completed by 3 p.m.
Oct. 9 Exhibit open to public from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Oct 10 – 11 Exhibit open to public from 9 a. m. to 6 p.m.
Oct. 10 7:30 p.m. – winners announced and prize money awarded at Longhorn Cavern Grand Opening
Oct. 12 All entries sold or not sold must be removed from the exhibit area no later than 3 p.m.

AWARDS – Best of Show

Three awards will be granted for this competition.

· 1st Place $1000
· 2nd Place $ 750
· 3rd Place $ 500
